Week In Review – Sick With Lots of Legos

Happy Monday!

Linking up with Meghan from Clean Eats, Fast Feets for another Week in Review!

Last week was an interesting one.  It was rainy and kind of bleh and I managed to catch a summer cold from who knows where.  There’s nothing worse than spending two days in bed when you’re sick, am I right?  I knew my health was truly making a turn for the better when Phoebe told me I didn’t sound too weird anymore. Ha! Thankfully I had cats to keep me company during the day and at night the munchkins.

Lots of soup this week, though, and tea with honey and a touch of bourbon or rum in the evening.

It was also a really rough week for Phoebe’s Barbies and Princess dolls.  There was some major partying going on and for some reason most of them are not into wearing clothes anymore.

A video game arrived that I am very much looking forward to playing this Friday night on Twitch!

I was feeling better by Friday and on Saturday we started putting together a massive Lego Disney castle because it was finally on sale and oh so magical.

It is massive and still under construction since I haven’t had enough uninterrupted time to really make headway.

Vega has enjoyed hanging out in my office, however, so I guess there’s that. I haven’t been letting them in lately because one of them was peeing, so I’m taking my chances.

I also had to take Ziggy to the vet this weekend because it looked like she might have a UTI and they are indeed going to put her on antibiotics (I just got the call) because she had a really large amount of bacteria in her sample.  Thankfully she’s fairly cooperative even when being forced to do something she doesn’t like, whether it be taking medicine or getting a thermometer shoved up her butt.  Oh the indignity.

Week In Review – Date Night Edition

Happy Monday!

Linking up with Meghan from Clean Eats, Fast Feets for another Week in Review!

I should really just title these Weekend in Review rather than Week In Review since rarely do I remember to keep track of what happens throughout the entire week.  So, a few tidbits.

Sleep continues to be a tricky devil and the beginning of the week was a frustrating one with Little Miss not wanting to cooperate.  I did, however, make both kids very happy by getting them some requested costumes that they should get a lot of use out of.

Phoebe wants to wear hers pretty much as soon as she wakes up in the morning.

We have over 1000 roaches residing in our house now.  I decided to bulk order to save some money, and now we just have to make sure we keep them alive for the next month or so.  Bowser is growing and ate 20 in one sitting the other day!

Josh also got this great picture of Bowser one day.  Haha!

The best part of the week was going out with Josh on Friday night to see Mystery Science Theater 3K Live, however.  It was a late night, so we stopped for drinks and something to munch before hand.

Josh even got me to try his oysters.  Normally they are just not something I do, but these were more cooked, smoked, and served on toast, so I did it.

It’s unlikely I’ll be slurping any out of the shell anytime soon, but these weren’t bad.

The show itself, was a lot of fun.  We had really good seats and Josh grabbed a couple of pictures before the actual movie started up.

Oh boy was it a crappy movie too. Hahaha!  It was a fantastic night and I’m glad we got to together. Josh is a massive MST3K fan, and I’ve seen a good many of the episodes thanks to him. :p

The rest of the weekend was pretty low-key.  I still feel like I could use an extra 10 hours of sleep, to be honest.  On that note, have a great Monday!

Week In Review – The It’s Hot Outside So Let’s Stay Inside Edition

Happy Monday!

Linking up with Meghan from Clean Eats, Fast Feets for another Week in Review!

It was one of those weeks… nothing super exciting going on, and yet it seemed exhausting as well.  Phoebe has been having some rougher bedtimes as we attempt to get her to stay in her own room.  I was okay when she would wander into our room after we had all gone to sleep, but that time got earlier and earlier until some nights she’d go to sleep between 7:30-8:00 only to wake up at 9:00 or so and want to sleep in my bed.  We are trying to break that habit and it’s not easy.  I set up a cot in our room so if she does have trouble sleeping she can come sleep on that, but the novelty wore off and she doesn’t want to sleep on the cot anymore.  SIGH.

On Tuesday I got a hair trim, and while I wasn’t sure about the short bangs at first… I grew to like them.  Har har har.

On Thursday, Enzo randomly threw up at day care several times, so I went to pick him up early.  He recovered quickly and was perfectly fine, but still had to stay home with Josh on Friday. At least the cats were happy?

On Saturday a friend of Josh’s drove out (he was picking up an arcade game that Josh had found for him) and spent the night.  Enzo didn’t want to leave the house, but Phoebe was antsy, so we had a little Girl’s Day complete with annoying puppet shows that she insisted we watch and lots of sleepy critters at a very hot day at the zoo.

The best part was getting a glimpse of the new Mountain Lion cub, though!!!! He/She was passed out and part of me wondered how hard it would be to break into the enclosure and steal the little guy away.  I’m not crazy.

Can’t forget hanging out with my favorite lizard. 😉

On Sunday we started putting together Bowser’s new enclosure (still waiting on the new light strip) and then it was swim class time!  Afterwards we played in the pool with the kids and then let them play in the play area before heading out to dinner because I had zero desire to cook.

Phoebe ended up falling asleep in our bed while we were watching The Great British Baking Show.  Even though it completely negates what we’ve been trying to train her to do, we left her in there.  It’s a new week, right?  I’m sure tonight will go swimmingly with zero issues!

Happy Monday everyone!

Week In Review – So much beer

Happy Monday!

Linking up with Meghan from Clean Eats, Fast Feets for another Week in Review!

What a week!  Josh and I celebrated 7 years of marriage, so we made sure to celebrate throughout the past week, which included plenty of beer sampling and we went and saw Spiderman: Homecoming.  The Blood Orange Stout and Red Velvet Cake Stout that I had at the second brewery were amazing.

We had to include the kids in on some of the celebrating, so what better way to do that than to go get ice cream?  Not surprisingly the kids picked out the two most technicolor kinds there… Superman and Kryptonite.

Bowser is slowly getting bigger and his new home arrived, we just haven’t put it together yet.  Until we can add a few necessary items, we haven’t bothered setting it up.  He doesn’t seem to mind his current situation too much, though, especially once I added the two logs. That seems to have made a HUGE difference.  He loves snuggles and last night he didn’t want me to put him back in his tank, but he felt cold.

I also managed to take advantage of some nice weather during the week and went for a nice lunchtime walk.  It’s been fairly hot and humid, so the drop in heat was highly appreciated.

The highlight of the week was Saturday when we went to Walnut Grove, MN for the Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant (40th anniversary).  More on that later!

Yesterday we were exhausted after a long, late drive home, so we just tried to stay above water… just in time for swim lessons!

All in all, a good week.  Have a great Monday!

The Long Weekend – 4th of July Style

It doesn’t need to be said, but I’m going to say it anyway. I love a 4 day weekend.  It’s even better when you really only have a small portion of it planned.  We knew we’d be going to the carnival on Sunday, but that was it. So, I started our Saturday day off the best way possible. I took the kids to Costco.  Not my best idea, but it needed to be done and we got a TON of water balloons.  The kids decided we needed to have a water balloon fight at some point.  They were not on their best behavior, however, so we ended up heading straight home after to Costco.

The kids could not have been more excited for Sunday to arrive, and it actually worked out really well because the carnival wasn’t nearly as packed as it is on the actual 4th of July and it was wristband day, which meant that for 5 hours the kids could go on as many rides as they went.

Phoebe wasn’t quite as adventurous as last year, but Enzo was even more so, which wasn’t the end of the world, but at times made it difficult because each kid wanted to be on different rides pretty much every time.  We met up with my brother and sister-in-law like we usually do and their two boys, which is always great for the kids, but I think we were often split up most of the time. Ha!  It was also surreal getting this glimpse into the future when our kids are even more independent than they already are.

It’s nice right now because neither of them really care whether or not they have to go on a ride by themselves, but I admit it was nice when one of them requested that we join in on the fun.  All too soon they’ll be off on their own and not want us cramping their style.

We did have one scare (which thankfully I didn’t find out about until afterwards) where Phoebe wandered off.  I was in line/on a ride with Enzo and Aiden and Josh and Steve were watching Malcolm and Phoebe when apparently Phoebe wandered off in search of me. Steve and Josh split up to look for her and thankfully found her quickly when Steve found a woman who was bringing her to Lost and Found.  I think it’s time we have a set game plan and a long talk with both kids on what to do if one of them gets lost.

Back to the fun!

As we were getting ready to leave, this little robin wandered a little too close to the little kid rides and not surprisingly small children started chasing it, so Josh ran and rescued it from the fray and took it somewhere safe.  I was about ready to adopt it, but after calling the Humane Society the woman assured me that our little friend should be flying in a few days and since we had no idea where his nest/tree was, the best bet was to take it a little away from all of the chaos of the carnival.  So cute!

On Monday, I blissfully found myself alone at Target and it was quiet and empty and magical.

I later found myself at IKEA where they were temporarily out of the bed I wanted for Phoebe (boo!), but they had a fantastic cabinet almost 50% off for my office!  Score!!

We also cleaned Bowser’s cage.  (Not all of the lights are in use on top of the cage… they’re to keep Vega off.  His new home should be arriving around the 14th next week and then we won’t have to worry about it!

Okay, time to wrap this up!
