Obligatory Update

The first half of April has gone by surprisingly quickly, though, it would still be nice if it was this day next month because then finals will be over and we’ll be that much closer to going on our honeymoon road trip.  In the meantime, we’ve been enjoying the warmer weather (when it isn’t snowing, that is).

We did get dressed up and go to a wedding yesterday, and had a good time. I promise we had more fun than the picture denotes. What can I say? I am not comfortable in front of the camera.

Time to hit the books again, but at least I know that Josh won’t be bored in the meantime.  😉

Things that made me happy this weekend

*Taking a much needed break from schoolwork to have an indoor picnic with Josh and play Bananagrams,

finally test out the new surround sound. What better way then James Bond?

We also got to use the cedar planks that Josh got as a gift on the grill with some yummy salmon. We used a maple glaze, which was excellent. I have cookbooks, I just haven’t had as much time as I’d like to use them.

*Josh made Uzi’s day by letting him get some fresh air outside.

*Josh cooking me a suprise for breakfast.

*Waiting patiently for breakfast with Ziggy.

*Josh added a few shelves to the pantry, and I reorganized. I now want to organize everything and get started on Spring cleaning, partially because who knows what we’ll find throughout the house… like these potatoes we forgot we had in the pantry. Left alone much longer they might have fulfilled their evil plans of taking over the world.

Work and Uzi

Uzi, being the interesting cat that he is, does not always make getting work done easy. It’s almost guaranteed that the moment you sit down to really get something done, he will find a way to get your attention.

It’s apparent that I need a somewhat larger desk.

Oh wait!  Maybe Josh has room and will pay attention!

And back and forth we go, until the perfect spot can be found.

Let’s try Josh one more time… maybe we can purr the grumpy look off his face.

Poetry a la cat

Because if it wasn’t for Josh I might have ended up a crazy cat lady. 😉

Black Cat by Rainer Maria Rilke

A ghost, though invisible, still is like a place
your sight can knock on, echoing; but here
within this thick black pelt, your strongest gaze
will be absorbed and utterly disappear:

just as a raving madman, when nothing else
can ease him, charges into his dark night
howling, pounds on the padded wall, and feels
the rage being taken in and pacified.

She seems to hide all looks that have ever fallen
into her, so that, like an audience,
she can look them over, menacing and sullen,
and curl to sleep with them. But all at once

as if awakened, she turns her face to yours;
and with a shock, you see yourself, tiny,
inside the golden amber of her eyeballs
suspended, like a prehistoric fly.

To A Cat by Jorge Luis Borges

Mirrors are not more silent
nor the creeping dawn more secretive;
in the moonlight, you are that panther
we catch sight of from afar.
By the inexplicable workings of a divine law,
we look for you in vain;
More remote, even, than the Ganges or the setting sun,
yours is the solitude, yours the secret.
Your haunch allows the lingering
caress of my hand. You have accepted,
since that long forgotten past,
the love of the distrustful hand.
You belong to another time. You are lord
of a place bounded like a dream.
