Week 23

Well, we made it through 2012, and here we are at week 23 (technically almost week 24 now).  Nothing exciting to report on the baby front, but we figured it’s time to sit down and start really going over what we need now that things should start settling down soon… we hope. Josh’s work has been keeping him really busy, so we don’t always have as much time on evenings and weekends as we think we’ll have.  I definitely want to start getting the nursery fixed up, though, even if the baby will be in our room to begin with.

We did, however, manage to get away for New Year’s Eve.  I’ve been feeling the need to get out and do something, and decided at the last minute that we should just go to a B&B and relax.  I thought it would be a good way to end 2011 and a good way to set the tone for 2012, which is going to be a pretty crazy year.  So, we went to New Ulm and stayed at the Deutsche Strasse B&B, which ended up being just what we needed.  We went on a brewery tour at Schell’s (1919 Root Beer for me, which is the best root beer ever) hit up a couple of antique stores, ate at a little German restaurant, and then relaxed at the B&B by soaking in a massive jacuzzi tub, playing cribbage and then watching a movie.  Breakfast the next morning was awesome, and then it was time to hit the road, which thankfully wasn’t too icy after the weather the night before.

Too make things even better, the cats didn’t even try and wake me up at 4:00 or even 5:00 this morning – they decided to wait until 7:00, which means they probably missed us and figured we were punishing them.  I really hope that means they’ll stop with the 4am wake-up calls from now on.

Return of the Road Warriors

Returning from vacation is always so bittersweet. It’s good to sleep in our own bed and the affection we’ve received from the cats shows we were greatly missed, plus our deck garden has greatly perked up while we were away! The peas are beginning to really take off (or are those actually morning glories… guess I forgot which, so it’ll be a surprise!), we have broccoli starting, the first little strawberry is forming, the tomato plant is blossoming, the pepper plants smell like jalepenos, and as you can see the the lettuce has gone nuts.

It’s still very hard to jump back into reality, though. Granted, at least it’s summertime so we have plenty of good weather to enjoy, but what now? We spent months and months planning this trip and it was so nice to have something to look forward to. It looks like we’ll just have to start planning another adventure, and we have a few in mind. Time will tell, and in the meantime, we have plenty of time left this summer to go on drives, camping, and whatever else we decide to pass the time.

In the meantime, we’ve started recapping our trip on our Random Trippers blog.
