Camping!

So far we’ve been unable to go camping this year, so Josh and I decided to try again this 4th of July weekend since it was 4 days.  The plan was to arrive Thursday afternoon/evening and then head out Saturday morning.

Camping1

Admittedly, the day started out a little rocky and had Josh and I worried since Enzo was being unusually cranky, and wondered whether or not we should call it off.  We decided to press forward, though, and had a very loooong drive with a toddler who did not want to be in the car – at all.  He perked up once we finally arrived at the campsite, though, and I was hopeful.  Our campsite was right next to a river, so Enzo and I peeked at that and then I let him stretch his legs a bit.  We sprayed ourselves with bug spray since the mosquitoes were out and about, and hoped for the best as they seemed manageable at the time.

Camping2

We are so glad we got our extra large tent.  It is incredibly nice to be able to stand up in it, and it was great to have a sleeping area and a separate play area for Enzo (built-in screen porch). We didn’t realize just how handy this would be until more and more mosquitoes started to appear – thankfully not until after dinner, though.

Camping3

When the bugs came out, Enzo and I headed inside the tent.  While he seemed to be avoiding being bitten, I was getting bitten left and right so he was happy to play for a while and watch his Dada through the screen.  Surprisingly he was happy to just keep himself busy while I got to read a book and despite having only had a short morning nap, the kid kept running around until it finally got dark enough to get him to sleep at 10:00.  I tried to join Josh outside at the fire, but it was a no-go with the bugs.

Camping5

The next morning we woke up to a light sprinkle and the unfortunate realization that the mosquitoes were twice as bad as the night before.  Enzo wasn’t super happy with breakfast in the tent and Josh and I decided to pack it up and go home. There was no way we could stay inside all day with the kiddo – he was bored and while the tent is big, it’s not big enough or entertaining enough for a toddler.

Camping4

So, that was camping.  It made me miss camping in Colorado and Utah even more than I already did… the mosquitoes seem nonexistent in comparison to here and you don’t have the humidity either.  Oh well, one day.  In the meantime, we may just have to forget about summer camping here.

Baby Girl!

We were very happy to have a good anatomy scan last week, and while we may have forgotten to take a belly photo, we got even better – our first glimpse of baby.

BabyGirlScan

We were both a little surprised at first when the technician told us it looked like we were having a girl.  At first she wasn’t entirely sure, but after getting several different looks, it would seem we are definitely having a girl.  I had pictured us with two boys, and I think Josh had the same picture in mind, but as the day went on, I found myself getting more excited about a little girl.  Considering Enzo takes after his dad his so much perhaps our little girl will be a more quiet bookworm like her mama.  They even act different in the womb – Enzo was constantly kicking and trying to spread out, whereas this little girl was wiggly, but kept curled up in a little ball during the scan.

Most importantly, everything looked good and she seems healthy.  I do have to go back for a 36 week ultrasound, however, because as with Enzo I currently have marginal Placenta Previa, but also as with Enzo, I expect the placenta to move on its own and I’m sure all will be well.

In honor of finding out we’ll be doing a little more shopping than expected, I bought our girl her first outfit.

BabyGirl

My Grandma used to call me Mouse when I was little, so I thought this outfit was perfect when I saw it. Plus, while we know it’s a girl, we kind of like yellows and greens and violets rather than too much pink, which I’m sure she’ll still have.

Can’t wait to meet you, Baby Girl!

Baby’s First Aquarium

This past weekend we decided we needed to get out of the house, and because the weather kept changing and said there would be thunderstorms, we called off a zoo visit and took Enzo to the aquarium at The Mall of America.

Aquarium1 Aquarium2

I think he was a little overwhelmed at first and just spent most of his time taking it all in – both people and animals. He was also getting used to his new shoes, which thankfully for us meant he didn’t try to run off. One annoying thing about the aquarium is the skinny walkways, however.  I don’t recommend bringing a stroller, and despite how much people paid to get in – everyone seemed to be in a rush to get out, or on the opposite end, you had people going excruciatingly slow.  One of Enzo’s favorite exhibits, though, was the jellyfish.  He smiled a lot and liked watching the lights change colors.

Aquarium3

The Octopus exhibit was also neat, and thankfully for Enzo, one was particularly active and fun to watch.

Aquarium4

While the aquarium isn’t huge, it does have a cool tunnel that you get to walk through, which always seems to be the best part of any aquarium.  Enzo didn’t seem all that interested, however, but did perk up when a mom with a little girl ended up next to us.  Before I knew it, the stinker was blowing kisses and making friends, and could care less about the fish.  He’s a charmer, that one. 😉

Overall it was a good day, and it’s so much fun to take him to new places and see things through his eyes and introduce him to new experiences. We can also always count on him to try and make new friends.  We stopped at a couple stores after lunch (which he was a champ during even though it took forever for our food to come), and Enzo tried to leave with another family who had a bunch of kids. Ha ha. He wasn’t happy when Daddy grabbed him and told him he had to stay behind.  He’s a social one, our boy.

19 Weeks

We’re just a few days away from finding out what we’re having and we’re super excited.  Granted, I’m more excited about just having an ultrasound and finally getting a glimpse of the burrito. With Enzo we had 1 or 2 ultrasounds before the big anatomy scan, which is of course more about making sure the baby is developing okay. I’m always nervous during this one as they look at the heart and organs and pretty much hold my breath until I hear them say everything is okay.

Week 19

As for other things, the house is still coming together, but I actually feel like my energy is coming back even if my sciatic ends up acting up after a day of activity.  This weekend I pulled out the crock pot and made a Moroccan beef stew and even made fresh Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp for dessert.

Crisp

As for Enzo… well, he’s definitely been entertaining.  We have our highs and lows, and part of the extra sassiness this week has probably been because he’s been the oldest kid at day care with no one else to really play with since the two boys nearest his age have had Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease.  They’re supposed to be back tomorrow, though, and apparently they’re both starting to walk now, so hopefully Enzo will have some kiddos that can keep up with him now.

Basketfun

When he isn’t causing chaos in the kitchen… or his bedroom, or the living room, or the bathroom, he’s busy surprising us and acting like a big goof.  He is now pointing to his nose and learning different body parts, even though he can’t really say them yet.  We’re getting closer to new words, though, and it’s kind of amazing what each new week brings.

Loofahtime Goof

Granted, he has his meltdowns, but the laughs and giggles and sweet open-mouth kisses make it all worthwhile. :p  I’m also loving that he has a new favorite book almost each week and likes to climb into Mama’s lap to read whichever one it is.  It’s been ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear’ for about a week, but I think ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ is giving that one a run for it’s money.  Exciting, right?

E&F

Bill Cosby and a Tricycle.

Those two things aren’t actually related, but they do sum up our weekend to an extent.  On Saturday Josh and I went to see Bill Cosby at Treasure Island for an early anniversary present to ourselves, and that morning we also put together a tricycle for Enzo.

Trike1

As you can see, Enzo was very impatient to have it done.  He was really into the whole process and super excited about it… he must have known that because there were wheels, it would be an awesome toy.

Trike2

He’s right too – it’s a pretty cool trike because for now it also acts as a stroller that Josh and I can push until he’s big enough to start using the pedals. The little man started losing his cool before the trike was finished, but you can see by the look on his face that he was pretty excited when he got to see it all finished.

Trike3 Trike4

Hopefully we can actually take him for a walk around the block this week if it stays nice out.  In the meantime, Josh’s sister Leah came to watch Enzo for us and it was off to see Bill Cosby!  All in all it was a decent show, though, it ended up being a tad shorter than we expected.  Bill is definitely getting up there in years and we couldn’t help but notice a lot of “Old man” mannerisms, but he’s still very funny, and we both laughed quite a bit. I think my biggest complaint was the venue itself and having to go through the smoking part of the casino to get to the event center, and the fact that the event center is basically an over-sized conference room, so the only way to really see him was on the screens.  Next time (if there is one) we’ll buy the cheaper tickets that are on the “high-risers”.
