About Heather Shoberg

I'm many things... I'm a wife, a mother, a book lover, a movie lover, a photography lover, a music lover, a coffee lover, and a chocolate lover. I have cute aggression and I'm an introvert. I love mangoes and my favorite flower is the sunflower. I got married in Converse sneakers and love fairy lights. I love the mountains and when I was little I wanted to be an astronaut.

Hello, It’s Me…

Funny how I didn’t really pick up my camera at all this week or last and just forgot to post anything last week, so all pictures from this post will not be recent.  It’s that time of year when everything is just crazy and I start to hibernate more and find it harder to motivate myself to do anything but read, cuddle, and watch Netflix. Have you watched The Crown, by the way?  I’m thoroughly enjoying it right now.

The kids started a new preschool this morning, and I won’t lie, I felt my eyes get wet as I watched the uncertainty in Enzo’s face and knew exactly how he felt from my own experiences as a kid starting new schools and feeling so overwhelmed by change.  I’m really hoping that when I go to pick them up I’ll hear only good things. I so want this to work out for both of them since the ideal situation (which would be me staying at home and him going to preschool part-time and Phoebe going next year) just isn’t feasible right now.

So, there’s a lot going on right now and I’m trying to prioritize how I see fit, which means less time blogging and doing a lot of things and trying to focus more on parenting and being with my kiddos and just figuring a few things out and how to make it all happen, you know?  Ideally, by this time next year I will be at home with the kids most of the time (Enzo will be in Kindergarten this time next year) maybe working part-time, and we’d be headed to our little cabin for the week up north (the plan is to get a cabin up north).  Now to just make it all happen, right?

In the meantime, how  about a few pictures from the zoo from a few weeks ago?  I imagine we’ll be there fairly often this winter when we want to go warm up in the Tropics Trail. 😉

3 Years ago (tomorrow) we welcomed our little Phoebe into the world and oh how we love this girl.

TutuFun2

Where to even begin?  I like to have these so I can look back and remember the little things, so here we go…

You love everything pink.  If we color, you generally always grab the pink crayon, marker, or pencil first. If I’m coloring with you, I usually have to run my color choices by you first as well. Is blue okay? No. Use dark pink.

You are still a snuggler and I kind of love it. I also love how even though you’re 3 you’ll still fall asleep in the carrier or if you’re tired enough… pretty much anywhere.

You’re adventurous and fearless, and even though you don’t always love rides right away, you still insist on going. Chances are, if your brother is doing something, you are going to be right behind him. You are such a fan of your big brother and (sometimes to his chagrin) always want to be where he is.

Along with the color pink, you love dressing up and playing with jewelry, doing your makeup, wearing fluffy skirts, playing with dolls and ponies, but also enjoy your share of trucks, cars and Ninja Turtles. You were thrilled when Enzo gave you his too-small TMNT hoodie.

You also love shopping and are always up for a trip to Target or the mall with me. It’s possibly you may love shopping even more than I do.  You are starting to become a little sassy and are trying to break glass with your shrieks of disdain lately, but I think we’ll keep you.

Twonager2

You have a great sense of humor, and take after your dad when it comes to goofiness. You like to take off your sock in the van, put in on your hand and use it to say, “Hello, Enzo!” in what is your Sock Puppet Voice. It’s kind of awesome.  You also like to yell things like, “Hey Daddy!  Come see my stinky poop!”

You are a strong independent woman and I can’t wait to see who you become.

Currently…

The leaves are gone, so I’d better post these fall pictures before fall is over.

Reading… Empire of Storms, In the Unlikely Event, and about to start A Breath of Snow and Ashes – it’s official, I’m an Outlander FAN. I’ve joined a group on Facebook and everything.

Watching… Poldark, Supergirl (Enzo is also a fan)

Listening to… Pandora… everything from classical and chakra clearing to Sia and beyond.

Drinking… Tea!  I’ve been sticking to one cup of coffee in the morning and tea the rest of the day if I need something hot.

Eating… Gingersnap cookies – Took Phoebe to IKEA, she hated the snack I brought her and insisted on a tin of Gingersnap cookies instead. Diva.

Planning… The next 2 months. They go by fast and there’s always a lot to do. Doctor’s appointments, get-togethers, you name it.

Celebrating… The day of Phoebe’s birth (on the 12th). How can she be three???

Exercising… Not nearly as often as I should. I’ve started doing some yoga with the kids, though, and their flexibility is far greater than mine.

Organizing… The kids rooms especially, but I want to get a handle on toys everywhere too.

Appreciating… The nice weather we’ve been having! We were in short sleeves… in November… in Minnesota!!

Loving… Reading, I’ve been doing a lot less TV watching so I can read more. I haven’t even really felt the urge to watch anything lately.

Looking forward to… Purging and organizing!!  I want to deep-clean before the cold sets in and fully

Pondering… My next steps and how to finish a few things before the end of the year.

Nervous… About the kids starting at a new preschool.  Change is hard, but I’m hopeful. I think the hardest change will be on our bank account. Kind of amazing that they had availability, though, when other places I looked have waiting lists through September 2017. I call it a sign.

Corn Maze and Other Fall Fun!

I feel like we’ve been slacking this year when it comes to our typical traditions, but it is what it is. We never did get to a pumpkin patch, but Josh’s dad treated us to some fun at a local Corn Maze, which ironically we never even ended up doing, but there are lots of other things to keep kids busy.  Unfortunately, it was also really cold that day… much colder than the weather was supposed to be. So begins the season of bringing hats and gloves and coats everywhere we go because you just never know.

Corn pits provide endless amounts of fun… who knew?!  It was thankfully a bit warmer under the tent which helped block some of the wind.

The kids also got to play with their cousins, which was an added bonus.

cornmaze1

Oh glorious giant bouncy pillow.  The kids had a little trouble getting up at times, but they had such a blast. It’s the little things, you know?

While the kids bounced, I found hot cider and stole Josh’s jacket because he’s a walking furnace on most days anyway.

The kids did at least go through the mini hay bale maze.  It always amazes me how much the kids change from year to year.  They’re so independent now!

And of course the big slide. Usually one of us always goes down with Enzo, but this time he was like, No thanks, I’ve got this.  He handed his money over to the person in charge, and carried his own sack up the steps with his aunt and cousin and grandpa and Phoebe.  We were worried at first how he’d do and he definitely got nervous, which is when he started going down crooked because he tried to slow down, but then he got brave and the look of joy on his face is priceless. Phoebe was terrified, but was thrilled when she got up. Ha!

Oh, fall.  Never change. One day the kids will think these silly slides and things are just lame, and I do not look forward to that day.

Week in Review – the H.A. Version

Happy Monday!

Linking up with Meghan from Clean Eats, Fast Feets for another Week in Review!

Random occurrences and accomplishments.

Okay, this week’s list is going to be pretty lame because I can’t remember the first half of the week and then was struck down with the plague on Thursday.  Okay, fine, that might be a slight exaggeration, but I haven’t been sick in a while, and this cold is kicking my behind.

We did, however, succeed in getting family photos taken on Thursday evening. By that point I could already feel something coming on, but was determined to get through the shoot. It was kind of cold and the kids did great despite how cold it ended up being for outdoor shoot.  Come Friday, though, UGH.  It’s just a cold, but I always forget just how much a cold can completely wipe you out.  My head is super congested and… you know how it goes. No more whining.

We also went to my father-in-law’s house for the yearly leaf pile.

Now to go ready myself for tiny little goblins and to make tea with moderate amounts of whiskey and to an early bed since I absolutely have to be at work tomorrow – fuzzy head or no.

Happy Monday!
