Week In Review – Work, Apples and Birds

Happy Monday!

WEEK IN REVIEW (in no particular order)

Random occurrences and accomplishments.

  • Work, work, work. As usual, amiright?
  • I made yummy mac and cheese and even did some meal planning! Only to realize I forgot to cancel the week’s Blue Apron, which threw off my plan.  Good intentions, right?
  • Started working on getting Phoebe to fall asleep on her own. I still lay down with her, but I’ve started getting up as she’s drifting off. I’m hopeful that eventually she’ll just stay in her bed when I leave her room… at least until around 10:00-11:00 when she’s ready to come sleep with us. I keep telling myself it’ll happen eventually – I mean Enzo sleeps in his room all night now.
  • Went to a Raptor release over the weekend and to a local apple orchard for some apples. More on that later, but here are a few pictures…

(The leggings we’re wearing and my top are all from LuLaRoe if you need something cute and comfy to wear).

  • Watched too much TV thanks to the Fall season starting up.  Feeling kind of meh about most shows, though and think I’ll be reading and watching older shows more often than I will watching new shows.  I did inform my husband I’ll be unavailable for part of Thanksgiving weekend since Gilmore Girls will be airing.

And that’s all I’ve got.  It’s going to be a pretty busy week for me, so maybe I’ll actually try and take more photos this time around. 😉

Happy Monday!

Preserve your memories… they’re all that’s left you.

Bonus points to those who recognize the lyrics in my blog post.

Some days I feel glued to my phone and pulled in a thousand directions.  Some days life feels chaotic and stressful and I feel like if I stop to think about it all I might crumble and fall apart. Then there are days when I turn the sound off my phone and set it aside and just… am.  Sometimes that means sitting quietly somewhere without even a book to distract me.  It’s amazing how many sounds a house can make if you really sit and listen.  With two kids, I’m not often alone in the house, but every Monday I work from home and when I’m finished, I try to take at least 15-20 minutes to just BE while I wait for Josh and the kids to get home.  Some days this means sitting quietly on the couch with my feet up and listening to Ziggy sleep (she occasionally snores) and the sounds of construction happening across the street as well as the random sounds that a house makes while watching dust specks in a ray of sun.

It’s easy to take these moments when I’m on my own, but I’m slowly getting better at remembering to put my phone aside and to shove unwanted thoughts away for a few moments at a time. The other night at dinner I couldn’t get over how grown up Enzo seemed. I don’t recall what exactly everyone was talking about, but I felt a tug at my heart as I watched him. Do you ever have those moments where you’re talking to someone and want to commit every little detail to memory?  It was one of those. I wanted to remember the exact color of his hair and how in the sunlight you can see bits of gold. I wanted to remember the exact blue of his eyes and the mischievous way they sparkle. I wanted to capture his dimple and his smile and for a moment I wanted to just freeze time because every day he gets bigger and bigger and it seems like more and more I forget the tiny little things and I don’t want to forget Enzo at 4 when he still retains just a hint of babyness.

Thank goodness Phoebe is still very much a toddler in so many ways, despite being almost 3 and pretty much a preschooler.  She’s still terribly attached to her nukie and insists on snuggles morning noon and night. Enzo was never a big snuggler and has always been more independent and wanting to do his own thing.  I love their differences and am still in awe that we created these tiny people.

Week in Review – Slightly Overdue

WEEK IN REVIEW (in no particular order)

Random occurrences and accomplishments.

  • Work, work, work. My side business is gaining slight momentum, but it can be exhausting when you throw in all the other stress we’re dealing with. The guest room looks much more organized now, though.

  • I’ve been actually curling my hair every day and I’m loving my new haircut. I’ve also had a really good body-positive week… not sure why, but I’m really comfortable in my skin this week. And my husband knows how to take the best photos of me. 😉  Also, why won’t WordPress flip my photo?  I’m too busy to care.

  • Is currently trying to figure out why one of the cats keeps periodically crapping in Phoebe’s room. It’s not cool and she doesn’t think so either. Our conversation Friday morning:

Phoebe (coming out of her room after I had cleaned up said poop): What’s that smell?

Me: A kitty pooped in your room so I had to spray cleaner.

Phoebe (whispered in disbelief): A kitty pooped… in my room?

Silence.

  • Rearranged our downstairs pantry/random closet and now I want to get rid of more stuff. I keep thinking about what it would be like to get rid of a ton of stuff and move into a smaller house.  I think the initial getting rid of stuff would be difficult, but once we actually did it, I would love to have a smaller house to clean and just less stuff in general.
  • Have been trying to cut back on sugar and stuff, but I’m failing miserable because I eat crappy when I’m stressed. I did, however, find the best yogurts ever.

  • We went to Josh’s cousin’s wedding this weekend and the kids had a glorious time running around. Phoebe especially enjoyed the dancing part and both kids were excited to get to drive home in the dark. Haha

And there you have it!  I can’t imagine this upcoming week will be very exciting, but one never knows, right??

Currently!

Well, I haven’t done one of these in a while. Currently, I feel like there isn’t enough time in the day and I feel like I’m playing a constant game of Dodgeball and losing. Just when you think you’re safe – BAM! Ball to the face.

LittleHelper

Currently :

Reading… The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon and The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

Watching… The Missing and rewatching Outlander

Listening to… Lots of Pandora and Spotify, especially on days when I get a clothing shipment in and need something in the background while I’m up late.

Drinking… Boxed wine. I’m classy like that.

Eating… Too many carbs.  I will never give up bread.

Planning… Ahead.  Financially, mentally, physically… you name it.

Celebrating… The day of my birth soon.  I’m taking the day off and plan on spending it sipping coffee and/or tea and reading. ALL DAY. Also… there’d better be some form of cake.

Exercising… When I can. Most often I get in my steps running up and down the stairs and here and there.

Organizing… The entryway, the pantry, my office, the garage… I’m always moving stuff around. I enjoy a certain amount of “clutter” but things are out of control!!

Appreciating… Whatever changes have occurred that have left us with a much happier boy. He’s not having nearly as many “bad” days in preschool as he was before and we’ve been letting him know how proud we are of him when he handles a difficult situation well.

Loving… The colors changing and slight nip in the air. I love this time when you can still wear short sleeves and shorts during the day, but require a light sweater in the morning or evening.

Looking forward to… the rest of the year. I do love September-December.

Pondering… All of the things. Where I want my life to go, what my long-term goals are, you name it.

How about some Snapchat updates too?  Might as well throw those in the mix!  I’ve been really, really bad lately about taking pictures of any kind, snapchatting or instagramming. Whoops.

^^Ha ha, I laughed pretty hard after this happened and tried to explain to Enzo that it wasn’t a big deal, but underestimated how much it scared him and how much he doesn’t like the feeling of flour.

Happy Friday!

State Fair

This year we realized we hadn’t been to the State Fair since before Phoebe was born, so I figured it was time we gave it another try.  There’s nothing wrong with the State Fair, it’s just usually very hot and very crowded and neither of those things are our favorite. The kids were excited at the prospect and I was looking forward to some tasty food, so we figured it was a win/win.

The kids were thrilled when we decided to take a bus. It’s absolutely the little things. Our day started off slightly rough, however, when we arrived at the Fair only to realize that neither of us had grabbed the tickets, our coupon book or ride tickets (all pre-paid and therefore much cheaper).  SIGH.  Oh well.  We got in line, got our tickets and since the kids were already starving, got cookies because there’s no other way to start the day.  The kids were really only interested in ice cream and rides, so we made our way there.

20160902_095845

For some reason, Phoebe was only a fan of the rides if they weren’t moving.  As you can see from the picture above… let’s zoom in a tad… she didn’t fully enjoy the rides, which is odd because she had a blast the last time we went to a carnival.

We did at least manage to talk her out of the mini Ferris Wheel, which we knew would freak her out.  Instead, Enzo had a fun time riding it by himself. He’d try to look as stoic as possible and not acknowledge us and then you’d see him fighting back a smile when we’d wave and make faces at him.

We did get the kids to go to a few other things here and there and we continued to snack on things like cheese curds and deep-fried Tacos.  We each had a beer and were glad we went on a Friday rather than a weekend. It was still busy, but definitely not has bad as on a Saturday or Sunday.

We decided to just bring one stroller and the carrier this time, and it worked out really well.  Enzo rode in the stroller for a bit and Phoebe at one point very happily napped in the carrier on my back for at least an hour. The weather could not have been more perfect and no one got too hot, which was a surprise for this time of year.

Overall it was a fun and exhausting day.  We had some hits and misses with food – the maple glazed bacon donut sliders were a sad let-down, and now I want to make the version I had pictured in my head – but the bunnies and babies never let us down. The kids did great with all of the walking and being out and about all day.  I think they could have kept going, but by late afternoon, Josh and I were DONE.  We probably won’t go every year, but it’s fun to go to every 2-3 years – maybe more frequently once the kids are older and don’t have to be carried around. 😉
