Week In Review – So much beer

Happy Monday!

Linking up with Meghan from Clean Eats, Fast Feets for another Week in Review!

What a week!  Josh and I celebrated 7 years of marriage, so we made sure to celebrate throughout the past week, which included plenty of beer sampling and we went and saw Spiderman: Homecoming.  The Blood Orange Stout and Red Velvet Cake Stout that I had at the second brewery were amazing.

We had to include the kids in on some of the celebrating, so what better way to do that than to go get ice cream?  Not surprisingly the kids picked out the two most technicolor kinds there… Superman and Kryptonite.

Bowser is slowly getting bigger and his new home arrived, we just haven’t put it together yet.  Until we can add a few necessary items, we haven’t bothered setting it up.  He doesn’t seem to mind his current situation too much, though, especially once I added the two logs. That seems to have made a HUGE difference.  He loves snuggles and last night he didn’t want me to put him back in his tank, but he felt cold.

I also managed to take advantage of some nice weather during the week and went for a nice lunchtime walk.  It’s been fairly hot and humid, so the drop in heat was highly appreciated.

The highlight of the week was Saturday when we went to Walnut Grove, MN for the Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant (40th anniversary).  More on that later!

Yesterday we were exhausted after a long, late drive home, so we just tried to stay above water… just in time for swim lessons!

All in all, a good week.  Have a great Monday!

The Last of the Soda

Well, we have officially finished off our last of the fun soda. I think it’s safe to say that I probably won’t be quite as adventurous in the future and will stick with more normal flavors and just assume that Ranch Dressing flavored soda will taste like poop.

Both the Blue Raspberry and Pineapple Whip were really good, which is probably no surprise. The perfect amount of sweetness and definitely good choices.

SodaTest23

Is it really a surprise that Maple Syrup soda was disgusting?  I think the most disappointing part is that most of these strange flavors haven’t even tasted close to what they’re supposed to be mimicking. At no point did I think, “Wow, it tastes like breakfast.”  No. It tasted like bad. Really, really bad.

SodaTest22

You really can’t go wrong with Root Beer, but it’s always fun to try different kinds. This one wasn’t my favorite, but it was still a pretty darn good Root Beer.

SodaTest24

With a name like Corn Squeezin, you have to try it and despite it’s name it was actually citrus flavored and really refreshing and light.  The Peaches and Cream was also really tasty, though, it had kind of a funny aftertaste.

The Blueberry and Prickly Pear were both awesome. We actually had  a hard time deciding who would get which after trying them both, but in the end I grabbed the Blueberry because of it’s slight grape aftertaste and Josh is not a fan of grapes. I would buy both again, for sure.

SodaTest27

You can’t go wrong with Vanilla Creme, but I admit I had high hopes for the Espresso Cola.  I probably should have looked at the ingredients, though. It was Spiced Espresso Cola and I think it would have been so much better without the added “Spice.”

SodaTest28

There was just too much going on with the coffee and cinnamon bark and Cayenne and other unlisted spices.  It was unfortunately a really bad explosion of flavors in my mouth and I didn’t care for the combo at all. It was a bizarre sensation.

SodaTest29

Thankfully I had a backup soda, though, in case the Espresso Cola didn’t work out. Spring grove usually has good sodas and we’ve tried their others in the past. Nothing better than a nice classic orange drink, am I right?

So… I guess now we either need to go buy more sodas or move onto the next weird thing.

Soda Sampling

We decided to let the kids have their first taste of soda this weekend when we cracked open a couple of bottles from the Blue Sun Soda Shop.  We don’t really drink soda very often anymore (at least I don’t), but every so often it’s a fun sweet treat. We also figured it wouldn’t be the end of the world if we allowed the kids a couple sips of caffeine-free soda for the first time.

We started off with this amazingly yummy caramel cream root beer. So smooth and tasty. Enzo was a fan, but Phoebe was on the fence.

The next up was this orange soda that Josh picked out. Not surprisingly, he chose the Gamer soda, but we both found it kind of ironic that the Gamer soda was non-caffeinated.

Josh and I thought it was okay. The orange flavor was really light and it was very fizzy.  We’re pretty sure that’s why the kids gave it a thumbs down.

Granted, it didn’t stop Enzo from giving it a second chance.  He determined it was still yucky, though. Both kids were done with soda after our little taste test and had zero desire to try anymore the next day. I seem to have forgotten the photos of those, however, and therefore can’t even remember which one I chose.

I have a feeling the kids won’t be asking for soda anytime soon, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Ha ha.

Oh!  Just remembered – the next day I tried a Key Lime Pie soda and Josh had a bubble gum flavored one. I’m going to try and post photos and keep track of all the flavors we try.
