About Heather Shoberg

I'm many things... I'm a wife, a mother, a book lover, a movie lover, a photography lover, a music lover, a coffee lover, and a chocolate lover. I have cute aggression and I'm an introvert. I love mangoes and my favorite flower is the sunflower. I got married in Converse sneakers and love fairy lights. I love the mountains and when I was little I wanted to be an astronaut.

Hot and Steamy (weather, that is).

Oh that time of year when it’s so hot and humid outside that stepping into an air conditioned room or car feels like its freezing and you put on a sweater even though it’s over 70 degrees.  I remember the first year we were here and I was completely unaccustomed to humidity of any kind coming from southern Colorado and the dry desert heat.  On the plus side, it means the kids can go outside as early as they want to because it’s actually pleasant out.

These pictures are from a few weeks ago when we filled up the little pool on the deck. We need to do that again… the kids (and I) had a blast. We chased each other around with squirt guns and they gained up on me viciously.  The water was ICY cold, but Phoebe didn’t care. Enzo was a little more cautious when it came to getting in the water and I was good with dipping a toe.

They may not always get along, but they will quickly side together against any opposition – which means it was me against them in our water fight.  I can’t imagine a better way to spend a morning, though.  Sometimes I forget how fun it is to be a kid and having kids will definitely keep you young.  I can’t wait to introduce them to water balloons one of these weekends.  It’s on!

Week In Review – Anniversaries and Walks

Happy Monday!

Linking up with Meghan from Clean Eats, Fast Feets for another Week in Review!

WEEK IN REVIEW (in no particular order)

Random occurrences and accomplishments.

  • Took the kids to a carnival and fireworks for the 4th of July because it only happens once a year, right?

20160704_193857-01

  • Took Tuesday off to be absolutely lazy and sent the kids to day care so I could do so. The day flew by way too quickly, though.
  • Finished the 4th Outlander book (Drums of Autumn) and really want to jump right into the 5th, but decided to take a break since I have a lot of books on my to-read list and Josh is waiting for me to read another one so he can start it.
  • Watched the last episode of Season 2 of Outlander. The feels!! One crucial thing left out, but I can deal with it.
  • Walked to the library and played Pokemon Go.

  • Went on a date with Josh to celebrate our anniversary. It looks like I boozed it up, but I actually only finished one of those drinks (the first one).  I usually don’t have trouble ordering a Caipirinha or a Side car, but both ended up being far more sour than I typically make or receive.

  • Started our actual anniversary with a sick Enzo. He has cellulitis – one can only guess at that age, but it looks like an infection might have started on a teeny tiny cut he had and BAM – his hand was super swollen.  Not looking forward to the Urgent Care bill… why do kids always get sick on Sundays???

Happy Monday!

6 or 9 depending on how you look at it.

While we’ll have been married 6 years on Sunday, today marks 9 years that we’ve been together. That also means we’ve been in Minnesota for 8 years, and as cliché as it always sounds, I really don’t know where all the time has gone.  Depending on which theory you might agree with, you basically become a new person every 7-10 years what with cells dying off and being replaced, and in some ways I find this to be very true. I’m not necessarily the same person I was when we first met.  Age and circumstance have matured me in some ways, and I suppose in many ways marriage and children have changed us as well.  At our core we remain the people we were when we first met, though.

Ah, when we first met. We technically first connected on MySpace and that’s where he asked me out.  We went out to lunch at a restaurant that he picked after asking a friend where he should take me, and it happened to be a place I really liked, but he didn’t really. At some point there was lettuce massaging, I think because at some point we talked about cows getting massages so the meat was tender… and then at another point we were talking about Follow That Bird (the Sesame Street movie) which led to our second date – the same day. I drove to his apartment after work and we stayed up most of the night watching random movies and went to work the next day and texted back and forth.

So it began.  6 months later I agreed to follow him to Minnesota, I think probably because I knew this was it. I don’t know how, either. It isn’t as though I had dated a lot previously to him, but everything sort of fell into place and each step seemed like a natural progression.  We still text and email throughout the day and we still have a mutual love of movies and randomness and don’t always “act our age.”  One of the joys of finding your person is that you’ll always have someone who accepts you for who you are, though, even your most annoying traits.  Sure, there are disagreements, but what else can you do but forgive the person you’ve chosen to be bound to for better or worse?  Nothing in life is simple or easy and perfection is nonexistent.

I hope the next 9 years of our lives are just as imperfect as the first 9.

Day In The Life – July 4th Edition

Time for another Day In The Life post!  For previous posts see here, here, here, here or here.

A holiday is never a typical day, but I figured it would be more fun.  I also decided to just use my phone and had Josh take pictures as well.  Funnily enough I thought I would take more photos if I just stuck with my phone, but I think I usually take more photos for these posts when I pull out my big camera.

While it could have been earlier, I still wasn’t thrilled to wake up before 6:00 on Monday, so I decided to let the kids crawl in our bed and watch some TV while Josh and I dozed on and off.

The kids went to the store with me the day previously and Enzo had picked out donuts, so we had those for breakfast.  It turns out the kids don’t like cream filled out donuts, so more for Josh and I. 😉

Knowing it was going to be a late night and that the kids needed naps, we nixed anymore TV and I tried to keep them occupied with random activities throughout the morning while Josh and I did a little tidying up in the kitchen.

The kids had some fun with perler beads.  Enzo decided not to keep his truck design, but Phoebe decided to keep her ice cream cone. The bigger beads are perfect for tiny hands, and let’s face it, me too.

The rest of the weekend…

Both kids were very excited to go to the “beach” on Sunday morning.  It’s really just a man-made swimming pond, but it’s really nice and has a huge shallow wading area for little kids.  We also go there early enough to grab one of the big umbrellas; however, within an hour we had people plopping their stuff right down next to ours despite their being a ton of open space everywhere.  Apparently everyone was doing that (crowding for shade) and we were not the only ones perturbed by this.  I assumed first come first serve?  I would never invade someone’s space like these people were doing, which is also we bought our own sun shade – for when the umbrellas are already taken.  Okay, rant over.  I just really hate having my personal space invaded.  Okay, rant actually over now.

The weather could not have been more perfect with a nice cool breeze now and then. Phoebe was completely in her element and refused to leave the water even when she turned blue and was shivering with chattering teeth and all. Enzo is still fairly cautious and would only go out so far, but he enjoyed himself nonetheless, especially since we brought the squirters.

Eventually, once it started getting busier and the lifeguards arrived we decided to eat a snack/lunch, get changed and head over to the playground, which also happens to be one of the biggest playgrounds I’ve ever seen.  Perhaps next year we’ll get a seasonal membership and go swimming more often.  It really is the perfect way to spend a morning.

Happy weekend all!  We get to leave early and I’m taking Tuesday off, so it’s an especially long weekend for me!
