Week in Review – Mostly Just the Weekend

Happy Monday!

Linking up with Meghan from Clean Eats, Fast Feets for another Week in Review!

Random occurrences and accomplishments – this week there were few accomplishments, let’s just be honest.  It was a fairly typical week with extra sugar and treats in the mix thanks to V-Day.  As if the kids really need extra candy… or me for that matter.

  • We rented The Girl on the Train and didn’t finish watching it.  We probably would have watched the whole thing had Phoebe not decided to crawl into bed and watch it with us (not exactly kid friendly) but we had already reached the plot twist point and figured we’d turn it off.  I read the book when it first came out ages ago, and remember it being fairly good, but the movie was so sloooooow and just didn’t work for us. It should be noted, though, that Emily Blunt was fabulous as always. She’s great.
  • Phoebe has been on a major Sleeping Beauty kick lately (wanting to read the book every single night) so we watched the movie on Saturday.

  • On Saturday night we went over to my sister-in-law’s house for a gathering, which was fun. The kids are always up for hanging out with their cousins. I made fondue, and I’m going to have to do that more often… only I think with a smaller pot. I always forget just how much it makes and the recipes are enough for probably a dozen people eating copious amounts of chocolate.
  • We also went to the library Saturday morning. I had a book on hold, and the kids were happy to grab a few new books to read as well.
  • The best part of the week was the weekend because we were able to spend some time outside. Hello awesome weather!

I attempted to teach the kids how to play tag in between them riding various toys. Enzo got the rules, but Phoebe was a tad confused. Haha!  I definitely got in my workout, though!

  • There was some gaming to be had, though.  I even kicked the boys off the TV so I could play my game for a bit.  After all that running around and a late night on Saturday, the kids were more than ready to just chill on the couch for a while.

Happy Monday everyone!

Photo Dump – Just another excuse to blog when I have nothing to say or new pictures to share…

It’s a glorious day, it’s Friday, and because I haven’t taken any pictures at all lately I’m going to dump a few that have been hanging around. Sure, I could just delete them, but it seems so wrong… which probably explains why I have a stack of art work the kids have done in school that is probably as tall as they are. I’m getting better about throwing out some of their papers that they bring home, but I really need to get over my attachment to everything they’ve ever created and do some purging. Keep the special stuff, get rid of the rest.

When the car decided to start dying. One day we’ll get El Guapo back… hopefully soon. The kids get ridiculously attached to our vehicles and are not fans of the loaner and will only ride in the van.

One day she’ll love this super flattering photo of her as an ice cream zombie.

May we never have lice again… ever!!!

With how dark it is outside, this should be nighttime, right? Nope. Enzo likes to get up early on the weekends. Every weekend. I don’t remember what it’s like to sleep in until the sun is actually up…

You can just tell by the look on his face that he knows exactly what he’s doing. Sure, Phoebe, let’s play this game where you push me around on a chair. It’ll be great!  Do my bidding!

Hey, remember when it was fall and there were corn pits?

CORN.

I will climb this bear despite my short stature. Overcome any obstacle!

I can’t wait for the weather to stay warm so I can go on more weekday walks… and weekend walks with the kids.  I would have today if I hadn’t had errands to run.

On that note, tea sounds lovely. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

I see spring on the horizon!

We’ve had some incredibly warm days and while I know we also have some more wintry temperatures on the way, I am ecstatic that we are going to be in the 50s this weekend!  I have a feeling the kids will be just as excited to be outdoors and with that in mind, I suppose we’ll say our farewells to snow as it is unlikely to be memorable from here on out. We meant to get out in the snow more often this year, but it either iced over, got too cold, or we were busy doing other things, or there really wasn’t all that much of it.  It was a very mild winter overall…

I swear we only pulled out the snowblower a handful of times, and by we, I obviously mean Josh because feminism be damned – that’s men’s work as far as I’m concerned. Ha!

I’m looking forward to when the kids actually have more fun in the snow. Right now I think they only have a so-so amount of fun because gloves never fit right because for some reason no one has figured out how to make snow gloves/mittens that truly fit tiny hands without pissing off the wearer to the point where they just want to go back inside.

I think we were maybe outside for like 10-15 minutes this day before the kids were over it and ready to go back in the house. So we spent as much time outside as it takes to get them in their snow gear. Not really worth it in my opinion.

I’m really just more of a summer person… there’s no doubt about it.  Perhaps we’ll actually do more fun outside things next winter, but I think we’re all just looking forward to warmer temps sticking around. Even the cats have been thrilled about the warmer weather and I can’t wait until that first day we can really open up the windows and air out the house and do some deep cleaning.  Okay, so I could really care less about the cleaning, but fresh air sounds amazing.

Okay, enough weather talk.  In all honesty I feel like I’m just drawing a blank and don’t have much to say lately.  I’ve got a lot on my mind, but for some reason still feel like I’m dragging my feet and avoiding everything and I’m not sure why. How, oh how to get myself out of this… not really a funk per se, but general blasé attitude about everything.  I’m really hoping sunshine will help.

Currently

Reading… An Echo in the Bone, The Hypnotist’s Love Story

Watching… Game of Thrones, This Is Us. We finished the OA on Netflix and were both incredibly letdown by the last episode.  I’m not sure we’ll even bother with the 2nd season after that.

Listening to… Music on our Amazon Dot.  It’s a nice way to mix up the evening… except both kids will sneakily change it when I leave the room.

Drinking… Nothing special. Trying to cut back on coffee still. We just started taking a Vitamin B complex hoping that will help boost our energy and all of that good stuff and in turn make it easier to cut out caffeine.

Eating… Trying to fit in more salads and healthy stuff.  Slowly, but surely, right?

Planning… We have officially narrowed down the dates of our spring road trip. Now to let everyone know and beg our friends and family to watch our cats/house. 😀

Feeling… Mostly just tired but also a little antsy.

Organizing… Absolutely nothing. I know I need to, but I have barely been in my office downstairs this week.

Thankful… For sunshine and warmer temperatures!

Forgiving… Myself for being a bit lazy lately. Sometimes you just need a little downtime and with luck I’ll get a boost of motivation soon!

Looking forward to… Tomorrow. I am going to try out a float tank aka Sensory Deprivation Tank!

I’m a Little Teapot…

I don’t recall exactly what brought up the subject of tea parties, but while I was playing with Phoebe and her Calico Critters she announced that Mama Koala was going to have a tea party.  It was then that I asked her if she would like to have a real tea party.  The look of joy on her face as she (in very girly fashion) squealed with delight was magical. However, as is the norm with 3 year olds, she said she wanted to do it then and there.  I explained that we should do a little planning and go shopping so we could go all out for her first tea party.

So to Target we went and I pulled out my tea set and appetizer tower.  Phoebe invited Josh and Enzo (who was at first uncertain as to whether he wanted to go or not), however, she told them in no uncertain terms that they could come only if they didn’t spill anything.  Enzo brought his rabbit as his plus one and Phoebe brought her rabbit and Liliana her doll. Phoebe had said she wanted something orange for her tea party, so I suggested we go with tea that had orange peel and she picked out a heavenly earl grey with orange peel and vanilla.  We obviously had to get some fancy cookies, which she also picked out and I made little sandwiches with what I could find in the cupboard along with some fruit.  Oh, and of course cupcakes.

It was a blast.  The kids are excited about having a big fancy tea party at least once a month and I’m sure we’ll do more simple parties more frequently. It was so much fun to watch them set up plates and cups for their dolls and help them eat their food and watch them add a little sugar to their own tea.  I’m looking forward to many more gatherings.

Don’t you just love the fake smiles?  They really were having fun…. I swear!

Yeah… still struggling with the looks of joy.
